Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Established in 1710, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is the oldest hospital in Berlin and one of the largest university hospitals in Europe. Serving both Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin across four campuses, it has become a key centre for education and healthcare in the region. Charité is especially renowned for its research, boasting 28 special research areas of the German Research Foundation and coordinating 14 EU-funded projects, solidifying its position as a leader in medical research in Germany and Europe. Integral to Charité since 2021, the Berlin Institute of Health translates groundbreaking biomedical research into novel medical approaches. The hospital oversees over 100 different Departments and Institutes, which make up 17 distinct CharitéCenters. Today, Charité employs over 18,200 staff, contributing significantly to the local economy and marking it as one of Berlin's largest employers.
